There is something about getting married beside the water that instantly changes the feeling of a wedding day. The breeze, open sky, sound of the ocean, and shifting light all become part of the story.

Madison and Curtis’s Stage Neck Inn wedding had all of that, along with soft blue details, a waterfront ceremony, their favorite people, and sunset portraits near the salt pond. Their day felt elevated, joyful, and completely connected to the Maine coast.

A WEDDING WEEKEND AT STAGE NECK INN

Stage Neck Inn sits directly along the water in York Harbor, making it such a beautiful setting for couples who want a coastal wedding without spending the entire day traveling between locations.

Madison and Curtis were able to get ready, take portraits, hold their ceremony, and celebrate their reception all within the same area. That gave them more time to be present with each other and with the people who came to celebrate them.

The ocean also stayed part of the story throughout the entire day. It appeared behind their wedding party portraits, framed the ceremony, and gave the gallery a bright coastal feeling from beginning to end.

GETTING READY BEFORE THE CEREMONY

The day began with Madison and Curtis getting ready separately while I photographed the details, final touches, and quieter moments happening around them.

Madison spent the morning with her bridesmaids, whose soft blue dresses felt completely at home against the water and sky. The palette was coastal without feeling overly themed, and the white florals and greenery kept everything feeling clean and romantic.

Curtis kept things classic in a black tuxedo, which looked so good against the bright coastal backdrop. Once everyone was dressed and ready, the energy shifted from a slow morning into the excitement of the day finally beginning.

A FIRST LOOK BEFORE THE CEREMONY

Madison and Curtis chose to have a first look before their ceremony, giving them a private moment together before the celebration fully began.

It also allowed us to complete most of their wedding party and family portraits ahead of time, leaving more room for them to enjoy cocktail hour with their guests later.

Once they saw each other, the nerves softened and the entire day began to feel lighter. We stayed nearby for a few portraits before bringing in the wedding party and family.

COASTAL WEDDING PARTY PORTRAITS

The wedding party portraits took place outside with the ocean stretching behind them.

Madison’s bridesmaids wore soft blue dresses and carried white bouquets filled with greenery, while Curtis and his groomsmen kept things classic in black. The contrast looked so clean against the blue sky and water.

We photographed the traditional groupings, but also made room for movement, laughter, and the moments that happened between the more polished portraits.

That balance is always important to me. I want couples to have the photographs that feel elevated enough to belong in a magazine, while still seeing the personalities and relationships that made the day feel like theirs.

AN OCEANFRONT CEREMONY IN YORK HARBOR

The ceremony space at Stage Neck Inn looked directly toward the ocean, with white chairs lining the aisle and florals framing the front.

The setup felt intentional without competing with the view. When a venue already has a backdrop like this, it does not need much else.

As Madison walked down the aisle, the entire day came together. Their closest people watched them exchange vows with the water behind them, and the ceremony felt emotional without losing the light, joyful energy of the day.

There were quiet looks between Madison and Curtis, laughter during the ceremony, and reactions from their families and friends that helped tell the full story.

Those smaller expressions are always some of my favorite moments to photograph. The kiss matters, of course, but so do the nervous smiles, the quick glances, and the people trying not to cry from their seats.

WEDDING PORTRAITS ALONG THE MAINE COAST

After the ceremony, we took a little more time for portraits around the property.

The light was still bright and clear, giving their daytime photographs a crisp coastal feeling. Stage Neck Inn gave us a mix of ocean views, greenery, open lawn, and classic New England scenery without needing to leave the venue.

For their portraits, I gave Madison and Curtis enough direction to feel comfortable while still leaving room for them to move, laugh, and interact naturally.

Some images felt clean and editorial. Others felt more playful and candid. Together, they created a gallery that felt polished without losing the energy of who they are together.

A WATERFRONT RECEPTION AT STAGE NECK INN

The celebration continued inside with dinner, speeches, dancing, and views of the water still surrounding the reception.

One of my favorite details was their dessert display. Alongside a smaller wedding cake, Madison and Curtis had a full tower of pastries that felt fun, unexpected, and completely personal to them.

As the evening continued, the focus shifted away from the details and toward the people. There were hugs, reactions during speeches, conversations between guests, and the kind of laughter that fills a room once everyone settles into the celebration.

This is the part of the day when I become even more observational, paying attention to the moments happening throughout the room so the gallery reflects the people who made the wedding meaningful.

SUNSET PORTRAITS NEAR THE SALT POND

Later in the evening, Madison and Curtis stepped away from the reception for sunset portraits near the salt pond.

The feeling was completely different from their earlier portraits. The daytime images were bright, crisp, and full of blue coastal color. By sunset, everything had softened.

They were also more relaxed. The ceremony was over, the reception was already underway, and they could simply take in the fact that they were married.

Building more than one portrait time into a wedding timeline creates so much variety. The light changes, the location shifts, and couples usually show up differently once the anticipation of the ceremony is gone.

These sunset portraits gave Madison and Curtis a quiet moment together before returning to the party and added such a romantic ending to their gallery.
