Parque at Ridley Creek Wedding on Digital & 35mm Film

If you’re planning a Parque at Ridley Creek wedding, this historic Pennsylvania estate offers no shortage of incredible backdrops for wedding photography. From the stone architecture and courtyard to the surrounding greenery and estate grounds, Parque has a setting that works beautifully for both documentary moments and more intentional, editorial portraits.

I photographed Carolyn and Frank’s wedding at Parque at Ridley Creek using a combination of digital photography and 35mm film. The mix allowed me to document the day as it naturally unfolded while creating portraits that highlighted the character of the estate.

Located within Ridley Creek State Park in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, Parque is a historic estate wedding venue surrounded by acres of parkland. The architecture, stone exterior, gardens, and surrounding landscape give couples a variety of locations for photographs without needing to leave the property.

As a photographer, one of my favorite things about a wedding at Parque at Ridley Creek is the amount of visual variety available in one location. The estate can serve as a dramatic backdrop for portraits, while the gardens and greenery create an entirely different feel just steps away.

For couples who want their gallery to include a combination of candid photographs, classic portraits, movement, details, and editorial imagery, the property gives you plenty of room to create all of those things throughout the wedding day.

Getting Married at Parque at Ridley Creek

One of the advantages of choosing Parque is being able to experience so much of the wedding day within the estate and surrounding grounds.

The historic mansion creates the feeling of a European-inspired estate without leaving Pennsylvania. Inside, the architecture and details provide additional options for photographs, while outside, the stone façade, courtyard, gardens, and wooded surroundings create some of the venue’s most recognizable wedding imagery.

When building a photography timeline for a Parque at Ridley Creek wedding, I recommend leaving intentional time for portraits around the property. You don’t necessarily need a long portrait session, but having enough breathing room in the timeline allows us to take advantage of multiple locations without making the photography portion of the day feel rushed.

Best Places for Wedding Photos at Parque at Ridley Creek

There are several areas around Parque that work beautifully for wedding photography, which means a gallery doesn’t have to feel like every portrait was created against the same backdrop.

The stone architecture of the estate is an obvious choice. It adds texture and scale to wider photographs while also working well for more editorial portraits.

The gardens and greenery offer a softer contrast to the architecture and are especially useful for portraits of the couple and wedding party.

The courtyard and areas immediately surrounding the mansion are ideal when you want the venue itself to remain recognizable in the photographs.

I also love looking beyond the most obvious photo locations. Smaller architectural details, doorways, pathways, pockets of light, and transitional spaces around the property can create some of the strongest photographs from a wedding day.

Parque at Ridley Creek Wedding Ceremony

The ceremony is where my approach becomes much more documentary.

Rather than trying to manufacture moments, I’m looking for what is already happening: reactions as someone walks down the aisle, hands reaching for each other, family members watching from their seats, laughter between the couple, and the smaller interactions happening around the main event.

At a venue as visually distinctive as Parque, I also make room for wider photographs that establish the setting. These images help tell the complete story of the ceremony and show what it actually felt like to get married at the estate.

Parque at Ridley Creek Wedding Portraits

Portraits are where I blend the documentary side of my work with a more intentional, editorial approach.

I don’t expect couples to know what to do in front of the camera. I’ll give direction when it’s useful, while still leaving room for movement and interaction so the photographs don’t feel overly posed.

At Parque at Ridley Creek, the architecture makes it especially easy to create portraits with a sense of place. I want couples to be able to look back at their gallery years later and immediately recognize not only how their wedding felt, but where it happened.

That can mean a larger portrait incorporating the estate, a quiet photograph surrounded by greenery, something with movement, or a more composed image inspired by the architecture around us.

Digital & 35mm Film Wedding Photography at Parque

Carolyn and Frank’s wedding was photographed using both digital and 35mm film.

I love combining the two because they each bring something different to a wedding gallery. Digital allows me to document fast-moving moments throughout the day, while 35mm film brings its own texture and character to portraits, details, and candid photographs.

Rather than treating film as an entirely separate part of the wedding, I incorporate it throughout the day alongside my digital cameras.

Parque is particularly suited to 35mm film because of the estate’s textures, architecture, greenery, and natural light. When the final digital and film photographs are placed together, they create a gallery that feels cohesive while still having the unmistakable character of film woven throughout it.

Cocktail Hour and Reception at Parque

After the ceremony, my focus shifts toward the people and energy of the celebration.

Carolyn and Frank included a tarot card reader during cocktail hour. It gave their guests something unexpected to experience before the reception.

Cocktail hour is one of my favorite times for candid wedding photography. Guests reconnect, enjoy drinks, and spend time together. These interactions create plenty of natural moments to photograph.

During the reception, I continue documenting the celebration as it unfolds. I photograph the room, meaningful details, reactions during speeches, and interactions between guests. As the night continues, my focus shifts toward the energy of the dance floor.
