We photographed this Osgoode Hall engagement session in the evening as the light became softer across the property.

Later light worked especially well around the stone exterior and gave us flexibility to photograph in both open areas and closer to the building. The grounds were also relatively quiet during Cheyanne and Keegan’s session, which gave us room to move between different areas.

Crowd levels can vary in downtown Toronto, so I would not plan a session assuming the property will always be this quiet. Instead, I build enough flexibility into engagement sessions to adjust where we photograph based on the light, activity around the property, and which areas are available.

Cheyanne and Keegan wanted engagement photos that included both polished portraits and the more playful side of their relationship.

We moved between directed portraits and less structured photographs throughout the session. I gave them direction when it helped with composition or movement, then left room for the interactions that happened naturally between them.

Osgoode Hall gave us enough variety to create both styles within one gallery. Some photographs focus heavily on the architecture, while others are closer and more focused on their expressions, movement, and connection.

Their session is a good example of why I don’t think choosing an editorial location means every photograph needs to feel heavily posed.
